Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has issued warnings to four voice service providers for allegedly transmitting illegal robocall traffic on their networks. This action is part of her involvement with the Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force, which aims to protect consumers from fraudulent calls.
"Voice service providers must be held responsible for the traffic on their networks," stated Nessel. "This bipartisan task force is committed to protecting consumers and disrupting the flow of fraudulent calls into our states."
The task force, consisting of 51 attorneys general, has been investigating these providers and shared its findings with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for further consideration.
Warning letters were sent to KWK Communications, Inc., Inbound Communications Inc., AKA Management, Inc., and CallVox LLC. These companies have been identified as having received numerous traceback notices related to scams involving government impersonation, tech support frauds, and other deceptive practices.
KWK Communications was noted for routing over 20,000 calls with spoofed numbers in one month in 2022. Inbound Communications allegedly routed more than 28.4 million scam robocalls in a single month that same year. AKA Management reportedly routed about 12.1 million imposter robocalls within a month in 2022. CallVox was warned about facilitating unlawful or suspicious robocalls.
The task force cautioned that continued transmission of such calls could lead to legal actions against these companies and their owners.
The Anti-Robocall Multistate Litigation Task Force continues its efforts to combat illegal robocall traffic across the United States.
