FOIA Request Sent to Montcalm County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Montcalm County Election Division Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.

In a bid to uphold transparency and accountability in the electoral process, we at Great Lakes Wire have submitted a request for records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq. The request was sent to the Montcalm County Election Division and is focused on obtaining pre-election test reports for voting machines used in the county's elections.

The requested records are sought in an electronic format, preferably PDF, and should contain specific fields such as the test date, machine manufacture, machine model number, and machine status indicating whether each machine passed or failed the pre-election test.

As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe access to these public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.

Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals. We await a response from the Montcalm County Election Division regarding this matter.
