The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has announced a Grant Funding Opportunity aimed at expanding transportation services for individuals involved in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment, harm reduction, or recovery support. This initiative is part of efforts to utilize funds from the Michigan Opioid Healing and Recovery Fund.
Michigan expects to receive nearly $1.6 billion by 2040 from national opioid settlements. Half of these funds will be allocated to the State of Michigan Opioid Healing and Recovery Fund, with the remaining half distributed directly to local governments.
MDHHS emphasizes its commitment to reducing health disparities related to overdoses and SUD treatment. The grants aim to improve access and retention in treatment and recovery services, particularly focusing on underserved communities.
Eligible applicants include SUD treatment providers, recovery community organizations, harm reduction organizations, federally recognized tribes, Indian Health Services, Tribal and Urban Indian Organizations, and SUD peer service organizations.
A total of $1.2 million is available through this request for proposals (RFP), with each grantee eligible for up to $200,000. MDHHS plans to issue up to six awards.
Applications must be submitted electronically via the EGrAMS program by 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26. The funding period starts on Feb. 1, 2025, and concludes on Sept. 30, 2025. Successful applications may receive continued funding based on performance and availability of funds.
A pre-application conference is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 4 at 9:30 a.m., lasting approximately 90 minutes. It can be accessed online at https://bit.ly/485YQuH.
