Head coach Matt Majkrzak of Northern Michigan University's men's basketball team has been recognized as the GLIAC Coach of the Year. This accolade comes after leading the Wildcats to a 21-9 regular season and a 14-4 conference record, marking their first GLIAC regular season championship since 1992-93. Additionally, the Wildcats are hosting the GLIAC Tournament semifinals and final for the first time since that same season.

Majkrzak is only the second coach in the program's history to receive this honor, joining Dean Ellis who was named Coach of the Year in 1993.

Despite facing injuries throughout the season, Majkrzak has effectively managed his team by adjusting lineups without disrupting performance. The Wildcats matched their longest winning streak in program history at 13 games, originally set in 1984-85. Under Majkrzak's guidance, Northern Michigan boasts an impressive assist/turnover ratio of 1.68, ranking fifth nationally. They also average just 9.2 turnovers per game, which is the lowest in their conference and ranks them eleventh in Division II.

In his five seasons with Northern Michigan, Majkrzak has consistently improved the team's performance each year. His achievements include a GLIAC Tournament title, a regular season title, and an NCAA Tournament victory, with an overall coaching record of 86-54 (.613) for Northern Michigan.

This season under Majkrzak's leadership, Max Weisbrod was named GLIAC Player of the Year. Dylan Kuehl received First Team honors and All-Defensive accolades.
