The Northern Michigan volleyball team concluded its season with a loss in the GLIAC Quarterfinals, falling to Michigan Tech in straight sets. The match scores were 22-25, 14-25, and 15-25.
Michigan Tech gained an early advantage in the first set with a five-point run that put them ahead 7-1. They extended their lead to double digits at 16-6. Northern Michigan made a comeback attempt with Liesl Haugen serving, closing the gap to 19-18. However, they could not catch up as Michigan Tech took three of the next four points to win the set at 25-22. Jacqueline Smith recorded five kills for Northern Michigan during this set.
In the second set, Northern Michigan again faced an early deficit despite scoring the first two points. Unable to sustain momentum, they lost six of the final seven points of the set, ending it at 25-14 in favor of Michigan Tech.
The third set saw another challenging start for Northern Michigan as they trailed 7-2 early on. Despite narrowing the margin to 14-10 midway through, thanks to efforts from Smith and Meghan Meyer, Michigan Tech finished strong by winning seven of the last eight points and securing a match victory with a score of 25-15.
Smith led her team with nine kills while Meyer added eight. For Michigan Tech, Meg Rabbe delivered an impressive performance with 20 kills and a .543 attack percentage. Senior Lauren Van Remortel contributed significantly with 25 digs in her final game for Northern Michigan. Evynn Layshock also added four kills and three digs as part of her senior contributions.
Overall, Northern struggled offensively compared to their opponents, hitting just .129 against Michigan Tech's .330.
