Northern Michigan wrestlers prepare for regional qualifier in Naperville

The Northern Michigan University wrestling team is set to participate in the NCWWC Northwest Regional Qualifier this Sunday, February 25th, in Naperville, Illinois. The event will commence at 9 a.m. ET at North Central College's Gregory Arena.

During the previous season, Northern Michigan competed in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, where they achieved third place. Seven team members qualified for Nationals, and Tony DeAnda received recognition as the regional coach of the year.

The Wildcats are currently ranked 12th according to The Open Mat NCAA Women's Wrestling rankings. Notable individual rankings include Marisa Angelos at seventh nationally in the 143 weight class, Alissa Caltagirone at ninth in the same class, Noelle Gaffney at eighth in the 155 weight class, and Abigale Swanson holding twelfth place in the 170 weight class.

Earlier this month, Northern Michigan traveled to Des Moines for the Grand View Open. They secured multiple match wins and two athletes placed within the top five of their respective categories. Mickaela Keane finished fourth in the 170 class with three victories out of five matches. Marisa Angelos took fifth place in the 155 class with a record of four wins and two losses.

On February 6th, during a home dual against Alma College held at Superior Dome, Northern Michigan won decisively with a score of 33-13. Victories were claimed by Teni Ajayi (191 weight class), Trinity Valentin (109), Zhivanna Magdaleno (123), and Samantha Chaon (130).
