Northern Michigan wrestling triumphs over Alma College in dual meet

The Northern Michigan University wrestling team hosted Alma College in a dual meet at the Superior Dome on Tuesday night. The Wildcats secured a 33-13 victory, winning four contested matches and two out of three exhibition bouts.

The event began with NMU's Teni Ajayi competing in the 191 weight class. Ajayi won after three rounds, achieving an 11-11 decision with a 3-1 point advantage. Trinity Valentin followed with another win for the Wildcats at 109, securing a decision victory (10-2) and earning three points for the team.

Zhivanna Magdaleno contributed to the Wildcats' success by winning her match at 123 through a 10-0 technical fall. Samantha Chaon completed the sweep of contested matches with a narrow decision win, scoring 3-2 at 130.

Alma College gained two victories by forfeit, while Northern Michigan claimed four wins via forfeits.

In exhibition matches concluding the evening, Abigale Swanson achieved a technical fall victory at 191. Trinity Valentin was defeated by fall at 109, but Sharon Leon ended the night positively for NMU with a tech fall win in the 136 weight class.

Looking ahead, Northern Michigan will have time to prepare before their next competition. They are set to participate in the NCWCC Northwest Regional Qualifier on February 25 in Naperville, Illinois.
