Women's swim team heads to NCAA Championships with high hopes

Eight athletes from the women's swim and dive team at Northern Michigan University are set to compete in the NCAA Championships this week. The event will take place in Geneva, Ohio, at the SPIRE Institute Aquatics Center. The competition begins on Tuesday evening and continues through Saturday.

The swimmers representing the Wildcats include Camilla Carbone, Zoe DeKievit, Merixell Font Cantarero, Carlotta Santi, Anika Wright, and Mia Strazny as an alternate. Divers Kalina Ceglinski, Abbie Harned, and Laurent Plockmeyer have also been invited to participate.

Three relay teams from NMU will compete in the 800 Freestyle Relay, 200 Medley Relay, and 400 Medley Relay events. The team is currently ranked #11 among Division II swim and dive teams.

In their previous outing at the GLIAC Championships held at Holland Aquatic Center, NMU secured third place overall. They achieved notable success with three gold medals. Camilla Carbone excelled in the 100-yard Backstroke while Zoe DeKievit topped the podium in the 100-yard Breaststroke. Together with Txell Font-Cantarero and Becca Burrows, they clinched first place in the 200-yard Medley Relay.
