The Northern Michigan University Wildcats competed in the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, finishing 19th among 59 teams. The team achieved several All-American honors during the event.
Heidi Voigt provided a recap of the championships, highlighting key performances by the Wildcats. On the first night, the 800 Free Relay team, consisting of Carlotta Santi, Becca Burrows, Anika Wright, and Meritxell Font Cantarero, secured Second-Team All-American Honors with a 15th place finish and a time of 7:30.17.
On day two, Anika Wright participated in the 1000 Free event and finished 29th out of 39 competitors with a time of 10:19.90. The Wildcats' 200-yard Medley Relay team—comprising Carbone, DeKievit, Font Cantarero, and Burrows—achieved First-Team All-American status by finishing sixth with a time of 1:41.35.
The team's success continued as Carbone, DeKievit, Font Cantarero, and Santi earned Second-Team All-American honors for their performance in the 400 Medley Relay. They finished in 11th place with a time of 3:43.99.
On day four, Carbone placed seventh in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 55.03 to earn First-Team All-American honors. Font Cantarero also excelled by earning Second-Team All-American honors for her performance in the 200 Butterfly; she finished in 11th place with a school record-breaking time of 2:01.52.
The competition concluded with the Wildcats' participation in the 400 Free Relay event where Santi, Font Cantarero, DeKievit, and Carbone took home a time of 3:32.42 to secure their final standing at the meet.
