Camilla Carbone and Zoe DeKievit, members of the Northern Michigan University (NMU) swim and dive team, have been recognized for their academic achievements by being named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Second and Third Team, respectively. This announcement was made on Tuesday.
Carbone, who has been placed on the second team, is a marketing major with a GPA of 3.975. She has earned First-Team All-American honors in the 100 backstroke and 200 medley relay, along with Second-Team All-American honors in the 400 medley relay at this year's NCAA Championships. Carbone also received a GLIAC Commissioners Award and achieved individual NCAA qualifying times in both the 200 and 100 backstroke events. She was crowned a two-time GLIAC Champion for her success in the 200 medley relay and 100 backstroke and secured seven other first-place finishes throughout the season.
DeKievit, named to the third team, majors in secondary education/health and fitness education with a perfect GPA of 4.0. She earned First-team All-American honors in the 200 medley relay and Second-team All-American honors in the 400 medley relay at this year's NCAA Championship. DeKievit posted NCAA B times in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, and 100 butterfly events. She was crowned GLIAC Champion in the 200 medley relay and posted ten other first-place finishes throughout the season.
Among all honorees, nine of the thirty-three members of the Academic All-America® Division II women's swimming & diving teams maintain a perfect GPA of 4.0 either as undergraduates or graduate students. The ten members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.89.
The Division II Academic All-America® program receives financial support from the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist College Sports Communicators with managing awards fulfillment for the 2023-24 Division II Academic All-America® program.
