The Northern Michigan University (NMU) athletics teams are preparing for a busy weekend of competitions from April 19 to April 21. The women's golf team will participate in the Women's GLIAC Championships, while the women's track and field team heads to the Elaine Leigh Invite. Additionally, the women's lacrosse team is set to face Davenport and Grand Valley State.
The NMU women's lacrosse team recently celebrated a significant victory with a 21-12 win on senior day. Seniors Minnie Bittell and Kaitlyn Bridger, along with freshman Josie Lakosky, led the team's offensive efforts. Bittell matched her career-high in points with nine, earning her third GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week award. Lakosky also achieved personal bests in goals and points. This victory brought their overall record to 11-3 and their conference record to 2-1.
In women's golf, NMU dominated at the Lewis Flyer Spring Invite, finishing first among seven teams. Maya Hunter led the Wildcats with a total score of 149 and five birdies. Teammates Alyssa Yaggie and Maggie Pietila also delivered strong performances. The team now aims for a top-four finish at the GLIAC Championships in Augusta, Michigan, which would qualify them for the NCAA Regional Championships.
The track and field team had notable performances in California at both the Pacific Coast Invitational and Beach Invitational last weekend. Gianna Hoving and Madi Szymanski secured top finishes in the 1500m race at Pacific Coast Invitational, while Skylar Grubb won the 5000m race. Several athletes achieved personal bests across various events during these meets. The team looks forward to competing at Oakland University's Elaine Leigh Invite this weekend.
