The Northern Michigan University Women's golf team is preparing for the Lewis Spring Flyer Invite in Wheaton, Illinois this weekend. This two-day event marks the final competition of their regular season before the GLIAC play begins on April 19th.
Hosted by Lewis University, the tournament will take place at Cantigny Golf Club from Friday, April 5 to Saturday, April 6, 2024. The NMU Athletics website and social media accounts @nmu_wildcats and @nmu_wildcat_golf will provide updates throughout the weekend.
Cantigny Golf Club features three distinct sets of nine holes. The Woodside course presents dense woods and challenging par fives. The Lakeside course lives up to its name with four lakes traversing it. Lastly, the Hillside course, though shortest, demands precision for success.
Recently, NMU's team excelled at the Klash in Kentucky tournament, securing second place among nine teams. They improved their score significantly between rounds—from an initial 332 to a final total of 644 after reducing their score by 20 strokes in round two.
Maya Hunter was instrumental in leading the Wildcats during that tournament. Her consistent performance with scores of 78 and 74 over two days earned her a second-place finish individually and recognition as GLIAC Golfer of the Week.
