The Northern Michigan University (NMU) cross country team is set to compete in the Spartan Invite in East Lansing this Friday. The event, hosted by Michigan State, will feature a 6K race starting at 10 a.m. NMU enters the competition after a successful season opener at the Northwood Invite.

Several Division I and II teams, including Grand Valley State, are expected to participate in the meet. Coach Ryan expressed optimism about the upcoming challenge: "This will be a good test for the freshman, as it will be their first 6K. It will be good for all of our runners to run in packs, especially Madi and Ava, rather than running out by themselves. It will be a good chance to go forward from here for the rest of the season."

Last week at Northwood Invite, NMU's Madi Szymanski and Ava Maginity led their team to victory with impressive performances. Szymanski finished first with a time of 18:20.8 in the 5K race, while Maginity secured second place at 18:41.8.

The Wildcats aim to build on last year's performance when they finished sixth at the GLIAC Championships. In that event, Szymanski earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors with her 24th place finish.

Updates on NMU's progress can be followed on X through @NMU_Track_Field and @NMU_Wildcats accounts.
