Northern Michigan runners achieve personal bests at Lewis Crossover

The Northern Michigan cross country team participated in the Lewis Crossover meet held in Romeoville, Illinois. The event, known for its competitive field within Division II, saw nine runners from Northern Michigan set personal records.

The 6K race featured 10 teams that are either nationally ranked or receiving votes, along with six regionally ranked programs. This provided a significant challenge and opportunity for the young Northern squad.

Sophomore Madi Szymanski delivered an impressive performance by improving her previous personal best of 22:23.3 by 47 seconds, finishing at 21:36.3. She secured the 13th position out of 317 runners and achieved the fourth-best time among regional competitors.

Freshman Ava Maginity also set a new personal record, finishing in 88th place with a time of 22:55.6. Skylar Grubb recorded a personal best with a time of 23:17.1, placing her in 124th position.

Other notable performances came from Gianna Hoving (23:26.0), Dani VanLente (23:28.1 - PR), Emma Moore (23:30.1 - PR), Lamar Gordon (23:31.4 - PR), and Emma Sweeney (23:54.6 - PR). Beverly Harper and Elliott Smith also achieved personal records during the event.

Overall, the Wildcats finished in 15th place out of the 33 competing teams. The Colorado School of Mines won the meet with five finishers in the top twelve positions. Lindsay Cunningham from Winona State claimed victory in the race with a time of 20:06.8.

The Wildcats are scheduled to compete next at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday, October 14th, starting at 1 p.m.
