Northern Michigan to host Parkside in GLIAC volleyball quarterfinals

The Northern Michigan volleyball team is set to host the Parkside Rangers in the GLIAC Quarterfinals on Wednesday, November 20 at Vandament Arena. The Wildcats, holding a 19-8 overall record and a 13-4 conference mark, secured the No. 3 seed for the tournament. They will face Parkside, who enters as the No. 6 seed with an 11-16 overall record and a 7-9 record in league play.

In their previous encounters this season, NMU swept Parkside in Kenosha and narrowly defeated them in a five-set match on November 2 in Marquette.

Head Coach Mike Lozier expressed confidence ahead of the tournament: "We went out there and we did our job…that's really important. We're playing well and I'm proud of our focus. There is nothing better than momentum going into the Tournament."

The Wildcats are currently performing strongly, having won nine consecutive sets recently. They have recorded a .238 hitting percentage this season with notable statistics including 830 kills, 126 service aces, and 1,027 digs.

Jacquline Smith has been outstanding for NMU with 416 kills this season, placing her among the top players nationally. She also broke NMU's all-time kills record earlier this year. Allie Barlow leads GLIAC setters with 1,076 assists while Liesl Haugen has contributed significantly with her defensive plays.

For Parkside, sophomores Sam Fisch and Natalie Harris lead their team. Fisch has accumulated 355 kills this season while Harris tops the conference with her defensive skills.

The GLIAC Tournament schedule includes quarterfinal matches hosted by higher seeds on November 20, followed by semifinals on November 23 and the championship game on November 24.
