Northern Michigan women's basketball heads to Minnesota for two games

The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team is set to travel to Minnesota for a pair of games against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams. The Wildcats, currently on a four-game winning streak, will face Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, November 23, at 1 p.m. ET and St. Cloud State on Sunday, November 24, at 12 p.m. ET.

Fans can listen to Saturday's game on 100.3 The Point with Casey Ford providing commentary.

Casey Thousand, head coach of the Wildcats, commented on the upcoming games: "Now we're going to go on the road and it's a tough environment to play in. They're [both] tough teams, a tough conference, and they're coming for us just like we're coming for them."

The Wildcats recently secured home victories over Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State. Jacy Weisbrod leads the team with an average of 16.5 points per game and was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week. Sarah Newcomer follows with an average of 13 points per game.

In terms of defense, NMU ranks T-17th nationally in blocks per game (5.0), 25th in rebounds per game (46.3), and 29th in field goal percentage defense (32.8). Alyssa Nimz leads in rebounds with an average of 7.3 per game.

Minnesota Duluth enters the weekend with a record of 1-2 after a recent loss to Parkside. Myra Moorjani leads their scoring efforts with an average of 20 points per game.

St. Cloud State has started their season strong with wins against Central Oklahoma and Washburn University. Jada Eggebrecht is their top scorer averaging 14.5 points per game.

Both opponents present challenges for NMU as they aim to continue their successful start to the season.
