Northern Michigan University's cross country athlete, Madi Szymanski, is preparing to compete in the NCAA Championships scheduled for Saturday, November 18, in Joplin, Missouri. Szymanski, a sophomore, secured an at-large selection for the competition. This marks only the second time an individual from NMU has received such a bid since 1999. The last appearance of the Wildcats as a team was in 2017.
Szymanski's recent performance includes a 12th place finish in the Midwest Region where she set a personal record of 20:55.83. This achievement also broke the school's previous record by two seconds and showed significant improvement from her earlier mark of 21:36.3 at the Lewis Crossover event this season. During that race, she was in sixth place after one mile and eighth at the halfway point. Her efforts earned her All-Region honors.

The NCAA Championships will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET in Joplin, Missouri.
