The Northern Michigan University (NMU) cross country team competed at the Spartan Invite in East Lansing, Michigan, on Friday. The event, hosted by Michigan State University, featured both Division I and Division II competitors.
Sophomore Madi Szymanski delivered a strong performance for NMU, finishing 28th with a time of 22:23.2. This result improved her personal best by nearly 19 seconds and was one of the top finishes among Division II athletes.
Freshman Ava Maginity also secured a top-50 finish, completing the 6K course in 23:18.0. Her time ranked as the 13th-best among Division II participants.
Additional notable performances from NMU included Emma Moore and Dani VanLente, who finished consecutively in 75th and 76th places with times of 23:55.3 and 23:56.1, respectively. Other Wildcats finishing in the top-100 were Lamar Gordon (24:03.1), Emma Sweeney (24:05.1), Talon Prusi (24:07.5), Hillary Way (24:10.9), Skylar Grubb (24:18.8), and Paige Anderson (24:46.3).
The overall winner of the race was Katie Osika from Michigan State, who completed the course in 20:54.2. Lauren Kiley of Grand Valley State came second with a time of 21:02.0, while Makenna Veen from Michigan State took third place at 21:04.4.
The NMU team is scheduled to compete next at the Roy Griak Invite on September 22nd at the University of Minnesota.
