The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced the recipients of its men's soccer postseason awards for 2023. Four players from Northern Michigan University have been recognized for their performances this season.

Freshman forward Jaziel Sainz de Vilmorin was awarded the GLIAC Freshman of the Year, marking the second consecutive year a Wildcat has received this honor. Last year's award went to Tommaso Lami. Defenders Kalvin Glodz and Keegan Schmidt, along with midfielder Jan Hoffmann, also received accolades for their contributions to the team.

Alex Fatovic expressed his pride in the athletes, stating: "Extremely proud of all 4 of these players. Through a challenging and disappointing season, they were still able to make a significant impact on our program on and off the field."

Jaziel Sainz de Vilmorin made a notable debut by scoring his first career goal as a game-winner at home in the 86th minute. He finished fourth in points on the team and played over 1,000 minutes across all 16 matches. Fatovic commented: "I'm very excited for Jaziel... Congratulations, Jaziel, well earned and can't wait to see what you do next year!"

Kalvin Glodz was named to the GLIAC Second Team after serving as team captain and starting in 15 games this season. He played full matches nearly every time he took to the field. Fatovic praised him: "From NMU's breakout player of the year to our team captain... speaks volumes about his drive and commitment."

Jan Hoffmann also secured a spot on the GLIAC Second Team following another strong season where he led his team in assists, points, and shots. Fatovic acknowledged Hoffmann's versatility: "With all the adversity and challenges we faced... rightly deserves this honor."

Keegan Schmidt received an honorable mention while becoming NMU's all-time leader in games played. He started in most matches this season and was second on his team in minutes played. Fatovic said: "Keegan Schmidt deserves more than Honorable Mention... We wish you the best, Schmidty, congrats!"
