Head Coach Shane Richardson expressed his thoughts ahead of the matchup: "SVSU is very athletic and an extremely dangerous team. I'd like to think our time is growing and climbing every week, and hopefully we can go and put four quarters together on the road."

In their last outing, NMU faced Wayne State University but were defeated 41-17. Despite an early lead of 10-2 in the second quarter, they could not hold back Wayne State's 39-point run. Notable performances included Noah Hofmann's 52-yard touchdown and Sam Peiffer's 23-yard reception touchdown. Mitch Larkin stood out with 14 tackles.

The loss placed NMU at a season record of 0-9, while Wayne State improved to 3-6.

Key players for NMU include Mitch Larkin, who leads in total tackles within the conference with 95; Tyquan Cox ranks fourth in all-purpose yards with a total of 735; Sam Peiffer has three receiving touchdowns; Jax Hertel holds two interceptions; Jake Price has three sacks. Additionally, NMU remains one of the least penalized teams in their league.

Saginaw Valley State currently holds a record of 4-5 overall and is positioned at 1-3 within their conference standings. Historically against NMU, SVSU has maintained an impressive record of 11 wins to three losses and has won their last six encounters.

Recently, SVSU lost narrowly to Davenport University in overtime with a scoreline of 24-21 after fumbling during extra time play. They managed a total offense yardage tallying up to 352 yards compared to Davenport's 329 yards.
