The Northern Michigan University (NMU) football team faced a challenging game against No. 16 Davenport, ultimately falling short with a score of 28-12. The Wildcats managed to keep the game competitive for most of the contest, but Davenport's consecutive scores early in the fourth quarter secured their victory.

In the final moments of the game, NMU's freshman Aidan Hoard connected with Michael Love for a touchdown, marking the first career scores for both players. Michael Karlen successfully converted his field goal attempts to add to NMU's points.

Despite gaining 247 yards compared to Davenport's 466, NMU managed to force three turnovers in the first half. Kade Manzo was instrumental in these efforts with an interception and a forced fumble.

The loss leaves NMU with a record of 0-6 as they prepare for rivalry week.

The game began with NMU's defense making significant plays. Manzo intercepted a pass deep in their territory and returned it 39 yards. Brock Franklin contributed 31 rushing yards, but NMU stalled in the red zone, leading to Karlen's successful 28-yard field goal.

Davenport responded on their third drive with a long touchdown pass from Jason Whittaker to Peyton Brown, taking a lead that they would not relinquish. Despite another turnover recovery by Mitch Larkin at the goalline, Davenport extended their lead before halftime with Myren Harris scoring.

In the third quarter, defense dominated play until Karlen added another field goal for NMU. With quarterback Mariano Valenti injured, Hoard stepped in but could not capitalize on red zone opportunities.

Davenport widened their lead further in the fourth quarter with touchdowns from Brenden Sherrod and Caleef Jenkins following an interception by Travis Reece.

As time expired, Hoard connected again with Love for a long touchdown pass down the sideline.

Looking ahead, NMU will compete for the Miner's Cup against Michigan Tech next weekend at Superior Dome.
