The NMU women's golf team has completed the first round of the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate at the Ravines course in Lemont, Illinois. After day one, the Wildcats are positioned ninth out of ten teams.
"Tough day on some tough courses," remarked head coach Ben Johnson. Both the women's and men's teams are participating in this event on separate courses at Cog Hill Country Club. "We'll come back prepared to make a leap tomorrow."
Course #2 at Cog Hill GCC, known as The Ravines, recorded an average score of 86.49 over 55 rounds. The Wildcats achieved a team score of +59 (347), trailing Lake Superior State by one stroke and leading Parkside by four strokes.
Hailey Bolander leads for the Wildcats, ranking 16th individually with a score of 75 (+7). Her performance included starting on hole 16, being two over par after three holes, then shooting one-under through six holes from the first. She scored 39 on the front nine and 41 on the back nine with two birdies.
Abbie Pietila finished with an 87 (+15), placing her in 33rd position individually. She scored a 43 on the front nine and a 44 on the back nine, making six pars.
Maddy Martens recorded an 89 (+17), placing her at 37th. Beginning on hole 14, she carded a score of 44 on the front and 45 on the back with five pars.
Maggie Pietila concluded her round with a score of 91 (+19). Starting strong with a front nine score of 43, she struggled later resulting in a back nine score of 48.
Payton Dube posted a score of 94 (+22), achieving a front nine score of 43 but encountering difficulties resulting in a back nine score of 51.
Gabriella Moreau participated as an individual competitor and finished in position number 53.
The tournament will conclude for the Wildcats at the Flyers Fall Intercollegiate on Tuesday, October 8.
