Dr. Shondra Marshall, the Director of the Center for Racial and Social Justice, has been recognized as a Distinguished Alumni Honoree by the Michigan State University Black Alumni (MSUBA) organization. MSUBA is an affiliate club of the MSU Alumni Association dedicated to supporting current Black students, faculty, and staff at Michigan State University.
Dr. Marshall received the Clifton R. Wharton Jr. Distinguished Alumni Award from MSUBA. This award acknowledges an MSU Black alumna or alumnus who has demonstrated pioneering leadership, dedication to interracial harmony, outstanding community involvement, and commitment to MSUBA's goals.
“I never expected to receive the notable Clifton R. Wharton Jr. Distinguished Award; however, I am deeply honored,” said Dr. Marshall. “I am committed to service, equity, and justice; I will continue to lift and build!”
Her work on various boards and organizations highlights her leadership in promoting justice and equity. She trains students and youth in equitable mechanisms aimed at systemic change while focusing on research topics like academic performance, cultural responsiveness, racial socialization, and student/youth voice.
Dr. Marshall earned a bachelor’s degree in Retail Management with a cognate in Business and a master’s degree in Teaching and Curriculum with a specialization in Literacy and Language Instruction from Michigan State University. She completed her PhD in Educational Studies with a focus on Urban Education at Eastern Michigan University.
