As Detroit prepares to host the NFL Draft, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has issued a reminder to consumers about potential price gouging during the event. The city is expecting an influx of football fans, and Nessel wants attendees to be vigilant.
Under Michigan law, retailers are prohibited from charging prices that are "grossly in excess" of what others charge for similar goods or services. While prices often rise during high-demand events like the NFL Draft, this does not automatically constitute price gouging. Nessel advises consumers to compare rates and expenses ahead of time to ensure they secure the best deals.
“Fans should be able to enjoy the Draft without being nickel-and-dimed by excessively high prices,” said Nessel. “My office will be on the lookout for any business that tries to take advantage of attendees.”
Those who suspect they have been overcharged can file a complaint with the Consumer Protection Team. Contact details for filing complaints include a mailing address in Lansing, a phone number, fax number, toll-free line, and an online complaint form.
