A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Dekalb County on September 26, 2024. The request, filed by DeKalb Times, sought detailed information about all payments made to vendors from the start of the year until the date of the request.
The specific data requested included a list of all vendor payments with the following fields: Vendor Name, Transaction Date, Transaction Description, and Amount. This comprehensive list is expected to provide insight into the county's financial transactions over a nine-month period.
As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at DeKalb Times believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
In line with this commitment, we have requested these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140), preferably in an electronic format for ease of analysis and reporting. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we also believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
