As Election Day 2024 unfolds, Common Cause Michigan is reminding the public that results will not be immediately available. The organization emphasizes the importance of counting every vote accurately, which may take time.
Quentin Turner, Executive Director of Common Cause Michigan, stated, "What matters most is making sure every voter’s ballot is counted accurately and that takes time. While allowing pre-processing of ballots may allow the counting to go more quickly than in the past, Michigan could, and likely will have some races that are very close. And it’s important to remember that projections or running vote tallies are not final or official results. Every voter deserves to have their voice heard and we will learn the winners of all races when the election is certified."
In Michigan, larger municipalities can pre-process early votes; however, not all will do so. Voters have until 8 p.m. today to cast their in-person ballots or return vote-by-mail ballots for this year's election.
For those with questions or issues related to voting, a nonpartisan Election Protection hotline is available at 866-OUR-VOTE. Additional hotlines are accessible for Spanish speakers at 888-VE-Y-VOTA, Asian language speakers at 888-API-VOTE, and Arabic speakers at 844-YALLA-US.
Common Cause Michigan participates in a broad nonpartisan election assistance program aimed at helping voters with registration inquiries, polling location information, and other voting-related issues through trained volunteers available via these hotlines.
