Payton Dube finishes fourth at UPLGA Championship

NMU golfer Payton Dube competed in the 2024 UPLGA Championship over the weekend, placing fourth in the top flight of golfers.

The four-day event began with an individual qualifying round on Saturday, July 20, followed by match play from July 21 to July 23.

Dube finished fifth out of 70 golfers in the qualifying round, shooting a round of 82 (+9) and earning a spot among the top 16 golfers taken in the Champions Flight for the match play finals.

Dube defeated Lori Shea in her first-round match on Sunday, July 21, advancing to the final eight as the sixth seed. She then defeated third seed Mary Jo Stuart on Monday, July 22, securing a spot in the semifinals. Dube bowed out in the semifinals on Tuesday to Annika Miller, who went on to win the tournament later that day. Miller represented Ontonagon and currently plays collegiate golf at Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Former Wildcats Caro Tripp and Paxton Johnson also competed in the Championship, placing fourth and third respectively in their qualifying rounds to earn spots in the Champions Flight. Tripp knocked out Johnson in the second round of match play before bowing out to Annika Miller by one hole in the finals. Future Wildcat Abby Luke placed 22nd in her qualifying round to earn a spot in the First Flight. Luke was victorious in her first two matches before ultimately bowing out to Karla McCutcheon in the First Flight finals.
