Arthur Ylitalo finishes T31 at 121st MGA Amateur Championship

Jul 17, 2024

MARQUETTE, Mich. - Arthur Ylitalo of the men's golf team concluded his participation in the 121st Minnesota Golf Association (MGA) Amateur Championship, finishing tied for 31st place with a score of +1, 220 over three days of competition.

The tournament began with over 150 golfers, and a cut after the second round reduced the field to 63 players.

Ylitalo started strong, shooting -3 in his first five holes and birdieing the 18th to finish at -1, positioning himself well for the remainder of the week. In round two, he added two more birdies on the front nine, staying three strokes ahead of the cut line and securing his spot in the final round.

In his final round, Ylitalo had a slow start with a +2 on the front nine but recovered by birdieing the 10th hole and adding three more birdies on the back nine. He finished with an even-par score of 73 for the day.

"We are very pleased with Art's finish this week," said head golf coach Eric Johnson. "To make the cut at a State-Am and finish strong is impressive and going to help him grow as a player. We are looking for Art to be a go-to guy for us this upcoming year and we are excited to see these results."
