Mike Rogers, U.S. Senate Candidate for Michigan | Mike Rogers for Senate
Mike Rogers, a U.S. Senate Candidate in Michigan, has expressed concern over the current border policies under President Biden. These policies, which are also supported by Rogers' opponent Elissa Slotkin, have allegedly allowed "millions" of people to enter the country, including potential "terrorist threats." Rogers made this statement to the Great Lakes Wire on May 14.
"The Biden-Slotkin border policies have created a humanitarian and national security disaster at the southern border, with millions of individuals flowing freely into the country, including known terrorist threats who pose a grave threat to Americans," said Rogers. "I'd find Slotkin's flip-flop on the border laughable if the results of her complacency hadn't been so devastating to Michigan families."
In Fiscal Year (FY) 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded 35,433 arrests of illegal aliens with criminal convictions nationwide. This figure includes 598 known gang members according to CBP data. Since the beginning of FY 2021, there have been 294 illegal aliens on the terrorist watchlist apprehended at the Southwest border between ports of entry.
A case that garnered attention in March involved Grand Rapid's resident Ruby Garcia who was allegedly killed by an illegal immigrant from Mexico. This information was reported by WWMT news. The alleged perpetrator, Brandon Ortiz-Vite, aged 25, had reportedly entered the country illegally and had several encounters with law enforcement but remained in the United States. Police records indicate that he was previously arrested for illegal entry into a home in Wyoming as well as driving without a license or with an invalid one. He now faces charges of felony murder, open murder, carjacking, carrying a concealed weapon and felony firearm.
On May 8th, Sen. Elissa Slotkin voted to "count illegal immigrants in the census," a move which according to Mike Rogers would "tilt congressional districts towards Democrats." This statement was made during his interview with the Great Lakes Wire regarding the Equality Representation Act.
As per Ballotpedia's records, Rogers is a former U.S. Representative from Michigan's 8th Congressional District and has also served in the Michigan state Senate. He is currently running as a Republican for U.S. Senate in Michigan.
