Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has filed charges against former Adams Township Clerk Stephanie Scott and her attorney Stefanie Lambert for a 2020 election voter data breach. The charges allege that unauthorized access was granted to voter data, including non-public information, related to the 2020 General Election. Scott is accused of disregarding instructions to present the voting tabulator for maintenance and testing, while Lambert is alleged to have transmitted data from the Electronic Poll Book under Scott's direction.

Nessel emphasized the importance of election security and integrity, stating that actions undermining the democratic process must be held accountable. Scott faces multiple felony charges, including misconduct in office and unauthorized computer access. Lambert is charged with felonies related to unauthorized computer access. The case was referred to the Attorney General's office by the Michigan State Police after investigating possible election law violations by Scott.

It is essential to note that criminal charges are allegations, and the presumption of innocence applies to the defendants until proven guilty. The Department of Attorney General refrains from providing booking photos for criminal proceedings.
