Today, John Hendrickson, a 59-year-old resident of Bellaire, was sentenced to a prison term ranging from 17 to 40 years for the repeated sexual assault of a minor relative. The sentencing took place in the 37th Circuit Court in Calhoun County and was presided over by Judge John A. Hallacy. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the outcome.

Hendrickson had entered a no-contest plea in August to four counts of First-Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC) related to incidents that occurred at his home in Leroy Township.

Attorney General Nessel commented on the case: "Sexual assault is a heinous crime that leaves lasting scars. I’m grateful we were able to secure justice for the victim in this case without prolonging their suffering with a trial. The victim’s courage in coming forward after years of abuse is truly inspiring. I want to assure all victims of sexual assault that my Department is committed to supporting survivors and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable, no matter how many years have passed."

After serving his prison sentence, Hendrickson will be required to undergo lifetime electronic monitoring and register as a sex offender.
