Jackson City Council Nov. 29, 2022 meeting

Here are highlights of what happened at the Nov. 29, 2022 meeting of the Jackson City Council:

-The City Council continued discussions about what the City can do to help alleviate homelessness in Jackson. The council ultimately decided to direct City staff to come up with a plan to consider purchasing the vacant T.A. Wilson Academy building from Jackson Public Schools for use as long-term housing and a homeless shelter. The plan will be considered at a future meeting. The council also approved a preliminary plan to use local hotels for immediate housing needs.

-Two proclamations were presented from Mayor Daniel Mahoney to honor Sara Tackett, the retiring Director of the Jackson District Library, and Native American Heritage Month.

-The City Council approved improvement projects for the ongoing Loomis Park construction and an expansion of the Ella Sharp Park Golf Course Club House.
