MAME, the Michigan Association for Media in Education, is pleased to announce that the 2022 School Librarian of the Year Award was presented to Rebecca Lowe on Thursday November 10, 2022. Ms. Lowe was formally recognized at the President’s Award Gala during the annual MAME state conference which was held at the Kensington Hotel in Ann Arbor.
The MAME School Librarian of the Year Award recognizes an school librarian and MAME member who exhibits personal leadership in fulfilling the roles of teacher, information specialist, and instructional consultant.
Melissa Kempski and Katherine Montei nominated Rebecca to highlight her excellence in school library leadership and programming. In her time at Scripps Middle School, she has significantly improved the collection of materials and dramatically increased circulation as a result. She added a MakerSpace and works tirelessly on the Battle of the Books project. She uses social media to communicate with her students and the community, and shares her ideas and skills by presenting at conferences and holding leadership positions within the county and state. She has transformed the Scripps Middle School library program completely and contributed to the excellence of the field of school library in the state of Michigan.
MAME is a professional organization that has a membership of approximately 400 School Librarians and educators representing hundreds of Michigan school districts, universities and educational programs across Michigan.
