C&S Machine Products is expanding operations at its Bertrand Township facility, according to a press release from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's (D-MI) office.
The company manufactures precision components for the aerospace industry.
The governor and officials from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) revealed the news.
"C&S Machine has a longstanding partnership with the state of Michigan, including an Accredited Apprentice Program," Dominick Saratore, the company's CEO and owner, said in the press release. "Michigan has been a great municipal partner, and we are happy to call Niles, Michigan, home for decades to come."
"The project is expected to generate a total capital investment of $34.5 million," the press release noted. The expansion of the facility is supported by the Michigan Strategic Fund.
"This investment by C&S Machine Products, [which] will create 85 good-paying manufacturing jobs in Berrien County, underscores the strength of our talented manufacturing workforce and the attractiveness of our business climate," Whitmer said in the press release. "Together, we will continue growing Michigan's economy and investing in our hardworking people and innovative businesses so they can thrive. Right now, Michigan's economy is growing."
Whitmer said the state will provide a $750,000 grant for the project.
"We continue to be impressed with the skills and performance of our team here in Niles," Shaun Phy, president of C&S Machine, said in the press release. "We look forward to aggressively expanding our business here – making new investments in people, machinery, and advanced technology."
C&S Machine Products was established in Buchanan in 1966 and moved to Bertrand Township in 2016, according to the press release. Over 100 staff members currently work on-site.
The expansion of the facility is necessary to accommodate new buildings, machinery, and additional staff, the press release noted. The company plans to manufacture components for metal processing, hydraulic testing, and medical devices as well.
