Gov. Gretchen Whitmer reportedly plans to veto millions of dollars in state funding for abortion alternatives from the next fiscal budget, which has drawn criticism from Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America.
Michigan Radio reported that Whitmer’s office said her line-item vetoes is aimed at facilities that "purport to offer comprehensive reproductive health care, including abortion, but don't."
Susan B. Anthony (SBA) Pro-Life America condemned Whitmer's plan for the veto, saying it comes amid an unprecedented wave of attacks on pro-life organizations and threats from Democrats to “shut down” pregnancy centers nationwide; a recent news release from the organization said.
On June 24 in a 5-4 decision, the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, the landmark ruling from 1973 that established the constitutional right to abortion. The Court's ruling now gives individual states the power to set their own abortion laws.
SBA Pro-Life America has compiled over 80 instances in which pro-abortion advocates have utilized graffiti, destruction and violence since the Dobbs opinion was made public earlier this year.
Charlotte Lozier Institute recently released a full analysis and map showing that across the United States, pregnancy centers and community-based health clinics outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities 14 to 1.
In Michigan alone, "nearly 200 pregnancy and health centers across the state outnumber Planned Parenthood facilities 13 to one," SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelse said in the release. "The average client satisfaction rate of pregnancy centers is over 99%, and voters overwhelmingly support these nonprofits – including rank-and-file Democrats and pro-choice voters.
“Instead of supporting life-saving alternatives, Whitmer and other radical Democrats would rather keep taxpayer dollars flowing to the abortion lobby that is spending $150 million to get them elected. Their deeply unpopular agenda will have consequences at the ballot box.”
Last year, SBA Pro-Life America deployed a six-figure digital ad campaign to express their concern on Whitmer’s abortion stance and plans to spend $78 million during this election cycle to spread their initiative across the country.
