Six bipartisan bills were recently signed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer that will address health care costs, public safety and rent relief.

Whitmer has signed 865 bipartisan bills during her tenure as governor, according to a release shared by the governor’s office.

“I am proud to sign six bipartisan bills,” Whitmer said in the release. “Since I took office, I have signed 865 bipartisan bills, and our record of effective collaboration will help us stay focused on growing Michigan’s economy, creating good-paying jobs, and lowering costs. Let’s continue to work together to get things done that put Michiganders first.”

Senate Bill 447 seeks to make health care costs more transparent in an effort to reduce prices, according to the release. The bill asks insurers to give information about insurance plan pricing when asked by employees of big business.

"Everyone knows insurance is a major cost in our lives," state Sen. Dan Lauwers (R-Brockway Township) said. "I’m glad the legislature and the Governor were able to support this change which can lead to greater transparency and lower insurance costs for the people of Michigan."

House Bill 4173 will allow county boards of commissions to offer more than $2,000 in reward money for information that leads to the conviction of wanted criminals.

"This common sense law will improve public safety and help with criminal investigations. I'm grateful that this additional tool will be available to Michigan counties," state Rep. Kara Hope (D-Holt) said.

Moreover, House Bill 4799 will establish Michigan Uniform Assignment of Rents Act which will offer renters responsibilities and rights and was led by Rep. Graham Filler (R–DeWitt).

“The work done on this bipartisan legislation will bring needed stability and clarity to our Uniform Assignment of Rent laws,” state Rep. Kyra Harris Bolden (D-Southfield) said. "I am proud to have worked across the aisle to revise outdated statue with common sense solutions that will benefit Michiganders.”
