PSA- Board of Light and Power: Potential Power Shortages Across Michigan

The City of Portland and the Board of Light and Power (BLP) recently issued a public service announcement (PSA) that was included in this month’s electric bill and also placed on our website.  The PSA can be viewed by clicking the link at the bottom of this post.

The City’s BLP, as member of the Michigan Public Power Association (MPPA), has been coordinating with other public power utilities across the state to issue this PSA. Our goals are to:

1.) Inform our residents that brownouts are a possibility this summer;

2.) Assure our residents that the potential brownouts are the result of broader issues unrelated to the City’s electric utility, infrastructure or management thereof;

3.) Inform our residents that the BLP may request residents to exercise various conservation measures to help mitigate the potential for brownouts.

If a resident has any questions or concerns, please contact the Electric Superintendent, Todd Davlin as indicted in the PSA. As always, my door is open as well. Thank you.

Tutt Gorman

City Manager
