City of Walker Police Department issued the following announcement on Dec 12.
As you can imagine, our officers often come across those in need. Whether it be for a meal, tank of gas, or other need, many times, our officers open their own wallets to offer assistance.
While our officers will likely continue to do this, we are often asked by community members; "How can I help the police department?"
Here's the answer. This week, 12/13-12/17, we will be collecting GIFT CARD donations from residents or businesses as part of our Community Care initiative. You can drop the gift cards off at the Records Window inside Walker PD, anytime this week, during business hours 8 am- 5 pm.
PLEASE, NO CASH OR CLOTHING DONATIONS. We are looking for SMALL DENOMINATION ($25 is preferable) gift cards, that we can disperse on calls for service. We like to provide those in need some comfort while we work to connect them to other community resources.
Examples would be $25 cards to Meijer, Wal-Mart, or local grocery stores. A gas card, a VISA gift card for a hotel stay, or restaurant cards work also. It may be helpful to think of businesses along Lake MI Drive in Standale, or those along Alpine when considering what to buy.
We thank you for your consideration & assistance in our efforts to help those in need.
