City of Rockford issued the following announcement on Dec 3.
The City of Rockford along with Algoma, Courtland and Cannon Townships are exploring a potential collaborative effort to enable the expansion of the Krause Memorial Library, as recommended by KDL.
The collaborative efforts have led to a discussion about the potential of forming our own joint district library, which would enable us to fund the large expansion and operate the library at a reduced cost to taxpayers, while also maintaining an equivalent level of services.
The purpose of the December 8 special meeting is to bring Township Board members and City Council members up to date with where the Township and City leaders are in the process of evaluating options. No decisions will be made at this meeting.
If the potential collaboration proceeds, there will be future public meetings. This meeting is simply a discussion of ideas. If, in the future it is decided by the Township Boards and City Council to proceed with the collaboration, it will require a vote of the people in each municipality before anything would happen.
We have nothing but positive things to say about KDL and the services they provide to our community. We are simply exploring options and evaluating what is in the best interest of our residents.
