Betsie Valley District Library recently issued the following announcement.
Happy #NationalLighthouseDay!
The South Manitou Lighthouse is a real keeper. It helped guide ships in the Manitou Passage to safety during storms. The Manitou Passage, between Point Betsie and North Manitou Island, is one of the most dangerous passages in the Great Lakes.
The lighthouse towers 100 feet tall and is shore pretty to look at! You can even spot it from the mainland on a clear day. Keep your eyes peeled when you visit, we wouldn't want you to mist it.
