Career Quest Learning Center issued the following announcement on Oct. 15
Career Quest Learning Centers Director of Career Services Zac Hamby and Admission Representative Monique Lewis attended the Michigan Works! Annual Conference at the Radisson Plaza Hotel & Suites in Kalamazoo last month. The well-attended annual event was a great opportunity for exhibitors, attendees and members of Michigan Works! to work, learn, and network together. There were keynote speakers, panel discussions, and plenty of workshops.
About Michigan Works!
Founded in 1987, the Michigan Works! Association provides services and support to Michigan’s workforce development system. It is a nonprofit that receives funding from the government. It connects local agencies and partners with resources to help them better serve employers and job seekers. Its members have access to relevant and timely news, and professional development events and opportunities. The Michigan Works! Association also participates in the legislative process, advocating for the interests of the organization and its members.
Career Quest’s Role
As an exhibitor at the event, Career Quest Learning Centers had the chance to network with association members, Michigan Works! representatives, and other schools and attendees from across the state. According to Zac, the conference was one more way Career Quest connects with potential employers.
“We have an existing partnership with Michigan Works!,” said Zac. “They already know that when people need additional training, Career Quest is a great option. But we also were on the lookout for employers that might be able to place our graduates in jobs or externships.”
Monique said that she was able to gather a lot of information on how to connect students to Michigan Works! and all the services they provide.
“Many students are concerned about the cost of education, as they should be,” said Monique, “but they often don’t realize that there may be many financing options available to them in addition to loans. Michigan Works! helps connect them to funding resources to make career training more affordable.”
Another outcome from the conference was the ability to connect with other school representatives. For example, Monique said that for schools that don’t offer an HVAC-R Program, Career Quest is a good choice for students who want to enter the trades.
“We have an advantage over many schools because we do offer more programs,” said Monique. “I spoke with someone from a school who said we had programs that his school didn’t. Any time we hear about students who might be a good fit to Career Quest, that’s a good thing.”
Monique also noted that Career Quest’s close affiliation with Michigan Works! helps both organizations.
“They often send students our way, helping to fund their education,” said Monique, “and we train those students and send out qualified graduates who are ready for new careers. That’s good for everyone.”
