The Northern Michigan Wildcats women's volleyball team achieved a 3-0 win over the Lake Superior State Lakers on Friday in Marquette. The victory improves the Wildcats’ record to 14-13 overall and 11-4 in GLIAC play, while the Lakers fall to 1-21 overall and 1-14 in conference.
Northern Michigan’s offense was led by McKenzie Gruner, Madison York, and Sydney Bartels, each recording double-digit kills with 14, 13, and 10 respectively. York led the team with a hitting percentage of .684. Bartels also contributed defensively with a team-high 12 digs. Allie Barlow registered 46 assists for the Wildcats.
"It was a team effort tonight!" York said after the match. "Glad we got it done in 3! We got good momentum going into our last regular season conference game tomorrow! Go Cats!"
The Wildcats established an early lead in the opening set, building a quick advantage behind multiple service aces from Barlow and finishing strong with three consecutive kills from Emilia Gulock. In the second set, NMU opened ahead but faced resistance as LSSU tied at 18 before Northern Michigan closed out with a decisive run led by York.
The third set saw both teams exchange leads before NMU secured victory with late kills from Gruner during a final scoring run.
Northern Michigan is scheduled to finish its regular season against Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Saturday at home, with first serve at 3 p.m.
