Northern Michigan women’s basketball defeats Upper Iowa with largest margin since 2013

The Northern Michigan University women's basketball team secured a decisive 95-40 win over Upper Iowa on Friday night in Wisconsin Dells, improving their season record to 4-0. The Wildcats set the tone early, leading 31-11 after the first quarter and extending their advantage to 59-23 by halftime.

Northern Michigan shot efficiently in the opening half, converting 60 percent of their field goals and three-point attempts. Their strong performance continued throughout the game, ultimately resulting in their largest margin of victory since a 102-point outing against Finlandia in November 2013.

All fifteen players who took the court for NMU scored during the game. Jacy Weisbrod led with 22 points, while Madison Schroeder added 10. The contest also marked the first career points for Megan Marta, Addison Baumgart, and Haddie Showen, as well as Isabella Slocum’s first points for NMU.

Defensively, NMU limited Upper Iowa to just under 28 percent shooting from the field and forced 17 turnovers. No Upper Iowa player reached double figures in scoring. The Wildcats dominated rebounding with a 53-25 edge, led by Alyssa Hill's 13 boards.

With no Wildcat playing more than 20 minutes due to the lopsided score, nearly every player contributed across multiple statistical categories. NMU also outscored Upper Iowa in points in the paint (44-14) and assists (18-5).

The Wildcats are off to a strong start this season after setting a program record with an eight-game winning streak to open last year’s campaign. They will next face Lewis at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday in Wisconsin Dells.
