The FDL lottery club from West Bloomfield has won a $2 million Powerball prize through the Michigan Lottery. The club’s spokesperson, Sheldon Larky, explained that they bought several tickets because the jackpot had surpassed $1 billion. After checking their tickets following the drawing, they discovered one was a $2 million winner and confirmed it using the Michigan Lottery app.
“The club purchased several Powerball tickets because the jackpot was over $1 billion,” said Larky. “They were checking their tickets after the drawing and didn’t believe it when they realized one was a $2 million winner! They scanned the ticket on the Michigan Lottery app to double check it and make sure it was real.
“The club members said winning a $2 million prize is comforting and unbelievable.”
Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli offered congratulations to the winners. “Congratulations to the FDL lottery club that won a $2 million prize during the huge Powerball jackpot run last month,” Shkreli stated. “Jackpot runs are not only fun and exciting for players, but they also drive sales which helps the Lottery increase its contribution to the School Aid Fund.”
The winning ticket matched all five white balls—03, 16, 29, 61, and 69—in the September 3 drawing. This earned them a base prize of $1 million, which was doubled to $2 million thanks to selecting the Power Play option for an extra dollar. The ticket was purchased at Sunkiss Market on Puritan Street in Detroit.
Powerball tickets can be bought for $2 each at retailers across Michigan or online at MichiganLottery.com. Players may add Power Play for an additional dollar per play, which multiplies non-jackpot prizes up to ten times with a maximum of $2 million. Another option called Double Play can be added for another dollar per play, giving players another chance to win up to $10 million in nightly drawings.
Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m., with live broadcasts available at http://www.powerball.com. Powerball is available in 45 states as well as Washington D.C., U.S. Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
