The Northern Michigan University women's soccer team lost 1-0 to Davenport University on Sunday in Grand Rapids. Despite controlling much of the match and outshooting the Panthers 18-3, the Wildcats were unable to convert their chances.

Davenport goalkeeper Elizabeth Wolter played a key role in the result, stopping all eight shots on goal to keep a clean sheet. NMU also had eight corner kicks compared to none for Davenport.

The only goal of the match came in the 80th minute. Davenport's Claire Breault scored after receiving a lob pass from Madelyn Schamanek, sending the ball past NMU goalkeeper Jillian Thompson.

Throughout the first half, NMU pressed the Panthers' defense, with near misses from Madison Bilbia and Addison Frantti. Wolter saved four shots in the opening 45 minutes, including a strong attempt from Alyse Daavettila and a deflected shot by Bilbia that was tipped over the crossbar.

The Wildcats created more opportunities in the second half, including a long-range effort from Addison Wargo and a free kick from Hannah Kastamo that Wolter again managed to push over the bar. After Davenport took the lead, NMU appeared to have equalized with a header, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

NMU will play next on Friday, October 24, when they travel to face Grand Valley State. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
