The Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) held its latest Small Business Briefing on October 13, 2025. The event provided updates on several issues relevant to small business owners, including changes to IRS tax brackets and important federal deductions and credits.
Andy Hetzel from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan spoke about the increasing costs of healthcare and trends in insurance rates. He also discussed strategies that small businesses can use to manage and improve affordability in their healthcare plans.
The briefing addressed ongoing trade tensions between the United States and China, particularly regarding rare earth exports. These tensions continue to affect small businesses that rely on materials sourced from China.
The session also highlighted the Michigan Celebrate Small Business Awards. Organizers encouraged nominations for outstanding businesses for next year’s event.
