The federal government shut down on October 1, 2025, after Congress and the Trump Administration were unable to agree on a Continuing Resolution for funding. This marks the sixth shutdown since 1995. Some federal agencies have been able to keep employees working with existing funds, but many others have furloughed workers until a resolution is reached.

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce has expressed concern about the ongoing shutdown and its effects on the state. "The Michigan Chamber has continued to call on Congressional leaders to find a solution so that will end the instability and bring the federal government back to work," according to a statement from the organization.

At this time, there is no clear indication of when the shutdown will end. Reports suggest that Congressional leaders are not meeting publicly, though private discussions may be taking place.
