The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has closed Crouse Road at US-23 in Livingston County after a high-load vehicle struck the bridge on Thursday, September 25. The closure began at 3 p.m. and will remain in effect until further notice as MDOT conducts a detailed inspection to evaluate the extent of the damage.
According to MDOT, “This closure is necessary to ensure motorist safety while the damage of the bridge is assessed.” Drivers are being advised to use alternate routes while the inspection and any subsequent repairs take place.
MDOT also reminded drivers that they are responsible for knowing their load heights when traveling on state roads. Permits are required for vehicles or objects taller than 13 feet, 6 inches. The department stated, “Vehicle-bridge collisions result in serious injuries, significant property damage and major congestion problems. It is important to know the height of your load.” For questions or assistance regarding permits, motorists can contact the MDOT Permits Unit at 517-241-8999.
