The U.S. Department of Education has started informing states that it will release previously withheld Title funds to schools. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who was part of a coalition of 22 states suing the Trump Administration over its decision to freeze funding for six programs managed by the Department of Education, responded to the news.
“This education funding was approved by Congress to support our students. I’m encouraged to hear that, after we filed our complaint, the Trump Administration is reversing course and moving to release these vital dollars. Michigan schools still await the receipt of these funds, and we will assess our next steps at that time,” Nessel said.
The lawsuit alleged that the Trump Administration’s move to withhold these funds was unconstitutional, unlawful, and arbitrary.
