Roy Lee Holt, a 57-year-old resident of Harper Woods, has been arraigned in the 32A District Court on charges related to allegedly defrauding COVID-19 relief funds and Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the charges against Holt, which include two counts of False Pretenses $20,000-$50,000, one count of False Pretense $1,000-$20,000, two counts of Using a Computer to Commit a Crime, and one count of Making/Permitting a False Tax Return.
Holt is accused of submitting fraudulent bank statements and false representations to obtain two PPP loans in 2021. These loans amounted to over $41,000. Additionally, he allegedly received $19,880 in COVID Emergency Rental Assistance (CERA) funds by providing falsified documentation to the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA).
At the time of these alleged offenses, Holt was employed by Veterans Affairs. The investigation was conducted with assistance from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Office of Inspector General.
"I would like to thank the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General for their assistance in this investigation," said Nessel. "My office will continue to pursue and prosecute those who took advantage of taxpayer funds meant for individuals and small businesses struggling during a time of crisis."
Holt's arraignment took place on July 21 at the 32A District Court where he received a $10,000 personal recognizance bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 6 at 1:30 pm before Judge Rebekah R. Coleman.
